For the 2009-2010 academic year, we are serving 355 students in Grades K through 5. Almost all are Hispanic or African-American, many from families that include recent immigrants from Jamaica. Most students come from the immediate neighborhood in the northeast Bronx, and over 70% qualify for free or reduced-fee lunch.
As a charter school, we accept applications from any child in New York State, with first preference given to children in New York City, District 11. New students are chosen by lottery in April each year. We maintain a waiting list to replace children who leave the program. In April 2010, we had over 1000 applications for 50 openings.
