While enrollment is open to all students who reside in New York State, the school gives priority to:
students enrolled in the prior year - these students do not have to submit a new lottery application;
siblings of students already enrolled - these student must submit a lottery application by the April 1, 2014, deadline;
students residing in District 11;
students residing in the City of New York.
The enrollment periods are as follows:
The school accepts applications for the subsequent school year from the first day of class until the set deadline of each academic year. For the 2014-2015 academic year, the application deadline is 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 1, 2014. If applications exceed available space, the applications received by the deadline will be drawn by random selection.
Those persons interested in applying for the next school year may obtain applications at the School Director's office on days school is in session, between the hours of 8:00 A.M. and 4:00 P.M. The school will mail applications to anyone requesting an application by telephone, e-mail or fax. Parents can also download application materials from this website. All applications received after the application deadline will not be eligible to participate in the lottery, and will be added to the end of the waiting list created at the time of the lottery, which is usually held in April. For the 2014-2015 academic year, the lottery date is Wednesday, April 9, 2014.
Our outreach plan includes the following steps:
The school provides a written notice of the enrollment period in one or more local newspapers.
The school posts all application materials on this website.
The school posts a notice regarding the open enrollment period at the school.
The school distributes flyers directly to residents and through community organizations, announcing the open enrollment period.
The school schedules "open houses" at the school facility and in appropriate community-based facilities to disseminate information about the open enrollment period.
The school mails written notice of the open enrollment period and an application packet to all persons who enquire about school enrollment.
No specific student population will be targeted, though we fully expect that a substantial percentage of the student population will meet the criteria for designation as "at-risk."
A random selection lottery will be operated as follows, if applications exceed available enrollment slots, per grade:
We will hold the lottery during or prior to the third week following the close of open enrollment. For the 2014-2015 academic year, the lottery will take place on April 9, 2014.
The random selection drawing, conducted by the School Director, shall be open to the public.
The school will notify all applicants of the time and place of the lottery.
Names will be drawn until all available grade level positions have been filled.
Any remaining names will be drawn to establish a prioritized waiting list, to be used to fill openings during the school year for which the students applied.
After all eligible names have been drawn, the school will add the names of applicants who filed applications after the close of open enrollment. All post-deadline applicants will be added in the order in which they are received.
All applicants still on the waiting list must resubmit an application for the following school year (2015-2016), no later than the posted deadline date.
Once students are admitted, they will remain eligible to be admitted at the school for successive years, without having to re-enter the selection process.
Students may withdraw with written notice by their parents/guardians.
