A Message from Our Executive Director

Dear Better Learning Friends,

Thank you for visiting the BBL website. We welcome your exploration of our two Schools that serve approximately 1,100 students from Pre-Kindergarten to Grade 5. We want to share the Better Learning experience with you and welcome your visit to our Schools to meet our community.

We offer Bronx parents access to two outstanding public charter schools, BBL1 and BBL2. Our programs exemplify educational excellence and equity, particularly for children of color, by combining a rich, challenging pedagogy with an approach that nurtures every student.

Our students are among the highest performers in Mathematics and English Language Arts across New York State. In the face of the global pandemic, BBL was resilient and effective. We maintained the integrity of our educational instruction while encouraging and supporting the wellness of our staff, students, and parents.

BBL teachers are skilled at creating conditions that support high learning expectations. They are caring, responsive educators who inspire learners to explore concepts deeply, make discoveries, and grow knowledge through self-education and increasingly challenging tasks. We support staff through ongoing coaching and professional development in using techniques to illuminate learning paths for students to master academic concepts.

Since 2003, Bronx Better Learning has existed to uphold equity and excellence in education for students who live in under-resourced communities. Our work is vital to preparing students during their most critical, formative learning years for their futures. Our students go on to middle school and beyond emboldened with healthy minds, critical-thinking skills, confidence, and intellectual character. These qualities comprise the strongest foundation for continuous learning and the future professions of our rapidly evolving society.

As we look ahead to 2023, our 20th anniversary year, I invite you to join our passionate community. With your involvement in Better Learning, we can advance educational equity and excellence for all students.
