Principal - BBL1
Mr. Shubert Jacobs is the Founding Principal of the Bronx Charter School for Better Learning 1 (BBL 1) and has been with the school since its inception in 2003. He describes BBL as "a place that looks at children in a different way. We seek to recognize that every child is brilliant, irrespective of where they come from. We create an environment to help them be nourished and grow into their purpose. For me, this is a place where I have found my purpose."
Principal Jacobs' thirty-six years of experience in education spans elementary through the graduate level, including Shortwood Teachers College, Ardenne High School, St Georges College, and Covenant Christian Academy, where he served as Principal of the Elementary School from 1996 to 2000.
Friendly, outgoing, compassionate, and relatable, Mr. Jacobs excels in team building, fostering strong community culture, and instructional leadership. His greatest joy comes from his work with the staff, parents, and students.
In 2021, Mr. Jacobs received the Mico University College's 185th Commemorative Award for Educational Impact.
Mr. Jacobs entered the teaching profession through Mico Teachers' College, where he earned a certificate in English and Integrated Science. He holds a Bachelor of Arts with Honors in English Language & Literature with Social Sciences from the University of the West Indies, Kingston, Jamaica, and a Master of Science in School Supervision and Administration from Mercy College in New York.
